Imphal, October 31 2024:
Security forces recovered four rockets and other explosive materials from Pan jang village, located in the upper reaches of Thangjing Ridge under the jurisdiction of Churachandpur police station, Churachandpur district on Wednesday.
According to a police report, the recovered items include two rockets measuring approximately eight feet, another two around seven feet in length, and two large country-made mortars.
Security forces also recovered one medium-sized country-made mortar, three improvised mortar bombs, a radio set, and two country-made grenades.
Mention may be made that a rocket strike by Kuki militants in September this year killed an elderly man and injured six others in Moirang, Bishnupur district.
The rocket strike came days after Kuki militants carried out aerial bombing using drones in Koutruk village.
The drone bombing along with ground assault using snipers and high calibre assault rifles resulted in the death of a young housewife and injury of more than dozen individuals including police personnel.
Police recovered splinters of bombs and a damaged drone from Koutruk and nearby Kuki village, as well as remains of the rocket from Bishnupur district.
However, Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi and former DGAR Lt Gen PC Nair downplayed usage of drones for bombing and rocket bombing by Kuki militants on national TV.
The remarks made by the Army chief and former DGAR drew sharp criticism from the public questioning their motives.
