Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, September 29 2023: The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has informed that since the ethnic violence broke in the state on May 3, a total of 2911 Meitei people have been injured, 58 lost their lives and 23 still unaccounted for as a result of vicious attacks by armed Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists against the Meitei community.

Addressing media persons at UCM office in Lamphelpat on Friday, COCOMI medical and health care committee coordinator YK Dhiren said since outbreak of the ethnic clash, armed Kuki militants have been attacking and burning down Meitei and their settlements.

As a result of their attacks and other criminal activities, a total of 2911 Meitei people have been injured and underwent treatment in different hospitals.

Among those injured include many whose conditions are reported to be serious.

To ensure proper treatment to the injured people, various private hospitals are exempting treatment cost, with a number of individuals, clubs and associations, groups and organisations contributing their mite for speedy recovery of the injured through monetary donations.

However, it is noteworthy that the state government has not provided a single penny to those injured in the ethnic violence despite its announcement that compensation would be provided to students who suffered injuries during the clash, he said.

Dhiren further informed that since May 3 a total of 300 people have been registered with RIMS helpline unit where a total amount of Rs 10 lakh have been incurred as expenditure.

At JNIMS, a total of 1808 patients have been admitted with Rs 12,59,072 spent for treatment.

Commending private hospitals for extending free medical aid to those injured in the war waged by the armed Chin-Kuki terrorists, he said Raj Medicity has so far taken good care of 333 injured people though 11 were declared as brought dead to the hospital.

Of the total patients admitted, operations were conducted on 91 and hospital has spent around Rs 2 crore as of now.

Shija Hospital also provided free treatment to 70 patients and spent Rs 51,88,354; Little Clinic to 87 patients with total expenditure of Rs 12,92,940; Kripadashini Advanced Hospital, Advanced Hospital, Asian Hospital and National Charitable Hospital, Moirang also provided treatment to 22, 51, 3 and 37 patients respectively, he recounted.

Informing that total of 200 patients have also been treated at Bishnupur district hospital and some at Jiyan Hospital, Kakching and Thoubal district hospital taking the cumulative total to 2911, Dhiren confided that COCOMI is eyeing to float a corpus fund which will help patients needing long term treatment and those rendered physically immobile.

He then appealed all concerned to donate generously to the Gpay number 9862411800 .
