Cleanliness drive, Fit India Run held across state

Imphal, August 28 2021:
Staff of Customs Division, Imphal along with teachers of Wangkhei High School, Imphal East commemorated the 75th year of India's Independence with celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) by cleaning the school compound and planting tree saplings on Saturday.
In a release, Customs Division, Imphal informed that the event was inaugurated by its assistant commissioner HL Songate by planting a tree sapling in the school compound.
Chandel Battalion of IGAR (South) in collaboration with Chandel and MAAMBA Cycling Clubs also organised a freedom cycle rally to promote fit India movement and celebrate Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav on Saturday.
According to PRO IGAR (S), the cycle rally was flagged off by IGAR (S) major general Alok Naresh from Mantripukhri garrison and covered the distance of 100 Km along the Mantripukhri-Nambol-Bishnupur route, culminating at INA Museum Moirang.
In all 90 cyclists including 70 members of local clubs, participated in the event.
The cyclists halted in remote villages to spread awareness on India's Independence movement as well as fit India movement.
In his address, Alok Naresh mentioned that the freedom cycle rally is a prelude to the long cycle rally which will be flagged off on September 5 from Shillong and culminate at New Delhi on October 2.The long cycle rally aims to celebrate and cherish the spirit of freedom across the country by felicitating past, living in the glorious present and embracing the future, the PRO said.
The event commenced with the scintillating performance by Assam Rifles Pipe Band followed by felicitation of one Lamhoi Haokip (98) wife of Solet Haokip (late) veteran of Azad Hind Fauj and Indian footballer Bala Devi by major general Alok Naresh.
Further medical aid was provided to Lamhoi Haokip.
She was examined by the team of medical specialists from Assam Rifles for old age ailments and given requisite medicines.
IGAR(S) also assured her of their continuous support.
Meanwhile, Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) Thoubal in collaboration with Kakch-ing district administration organised out a Fit India Freedom Run as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
In a release, NYK Thoubal district youth officer Michael Thangminlien Mate informed that the run flagged off by SDO (Waikhong) Abujam Romen Singh on behalf of the district administration from the DCs office complex at 7:30 am was participated by around 75 members of Kakching Runners Keirak, Youth Volunteers Association (YVA), Pallel and NYK, Kakching district.
The run was aimed at spreading the message of keeping ourselves and society fit and to highlight stories and heroes of the freedom struggle for independence.
The gathering also took a Fit India Freedom Run Pledge, informed the release.
SDPO Kakching K Gitchan-dra Singh also attended the event on behalf of SP Kakching and oversaw the modalities of the Freedom Run.
The Fit India Freedom Run covered National Highway-137 A, Kakching Bazar, various localities in Kakching area and culminated at Irabot Park.
All the participants were presented a T-shirt each before the run by the NYK Thoubal side and provided refreshments after the run, added the release.
As a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, a Fit India Freedom Run 2.0 themed "Run-4-India" was also held on Saturday at Longmai Bazar, Noney district.
The run held from Longmai Bazar to 10 Assam Rifles' gate was flagged off by Divisional Forest Officer (Noney) Napoleon Rongmei as the chief guest in the presence of NYK, Tamenglong youth officer Victor Rongmei.
The run was organised by NYK, Tamenglong in collaboration with Longmai Nature Club and was participated by more than 30 youths of Noney area.
