Body to carry out Plastic Mukt Bharat campaign

Imphal, August 27 2022: Samvardhini Nyas, Manipur Prant would be carrying out Plastic Mukt Bharat campaign across the state with the objective to create awareness on plastic pollution and its impact as well as to encourage the public to protect the environment.

Announcing this during a press meet held at its office premises at Kwakeithel here on Saturday, Samvardhini Nyas Manipur Prant co-convener Indira Oinam said that the organisation has been carrying out different activities like training programme, workshop, livelihood mission programmes and felicitation of women scholars and differently abled women since its inception.

It is an organisation working for empowerment of women with support from individuals and establishments having similar views and ideologies, she said while informing that the organisation with the support from staff of CAU Imphal had distributed 4000 cloth bags among women vendors of Khwairamband Keithel and market goers on August 13 with the objective to discourage use of polythene bag.

Continuing the plastic free campaign, they would be organising awareness programmes in all the 16 districts of the state, Indira said.

She also spoke about her activities for women empowerment through income generation programmes and how she set up Women's Income Generation Centre.

She further said that the organisation had proposed setting up slaughter houses in all the districts, which could provide employment to nearly 10,000 youths.

Indira also said that the organisation has plans for carrying out different activities for 153 days in a year in coordination with different government departments, for which communication has been established with some departments.

Unemployed women can contact the organisation for involvement in its income generation activities, she added.
