Bishnupur, August 25 2024: A trooper of 19 Garhwal Rifle, posted at Kangvai Forest Gate post under Phougakchao Ikhai police station was found dead around 2:10 am Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Rahul Negi (28), son of Balwant Singh Negi of Malgaon in Garhwal district, Uttarakhand.

The service weapon issued to Rahul was found lying nearby the body.

In another incident, one Laishram Bi-pashu alias Thoiba (31) s/o Iboyaima of Thanga Khunjem was shot on his buttock by unidentified persons near Moirangkhunou Keirenphabi Upper Primary School Relief Camp under Moirang police station around 2.15 pm Saturday.

According to a report, Thoiba's condition of said to be stable as locals who found him injured rushed him to CHC, Moirang for treatment.

Thoiba's wife had committed suicide by hanging half a year ago.

Meanwhile, Moirang PS has registered a case in connection with the shooting incident.

On the other hand, local Meira Paibi activists staged sit-in protest at Moirangkhunou Bazar condemning such shooting incidents in residential areas.
