CCpur, March 25 2025:
The 9-year-old girl, who was found dead under mysterious circumstances on the intervening night of March 20 and 21, was laid to rest Tuesday afternoon at the cemetery of Zomi Youth Association (ZYA), Churachandpur.
Before her burial, a funeral programme for the minor girl, who was suspected to have been raped before being murdered, was conducted at Lanva TD Block relief camp at 11.40 am.
During the funeral programme, students from the school where the minor girl attended, particularly her friends and classmates gave their final adieu.
Headmistress of the school led the students in paying floral tributes to the lifeless body of the minor girl.
Under the guidance of the headmistress, students sung farewell songs and wrapped her body in traditional shawls.
The funeral programme was also attended by Churachandpur MLA LM Khaute, leaders of CSOs, women organisations and others.
In his speech, MLA Khaute condemned the gruesome murder in the strongest term and demanded befitting punishment to perpetrators of the crime.
Zomi Mothers Association (ZMA) spokesperson Lynda Kim also condemned the incident and urged law enforcement agencies to book and award befitting punishment to perpetrators.
Meanwhile, the minor girl's bereaved mother broke down during the funeral programme while tearfully describing her daughter as a pleasant and intelligent child.
The mother also played songs recorded by her daughter and expressed her hope that such inhumane acts do not happen to any girl child.
As per the police record, the girl had gone missing around 6 pm on March 20, following which her family started searching.
Her body bearing multiple injury marks, especially on her throat, was later found near the relief camp for internally displaced persons.
The post-mortem examination has been conducted but its report was not made public.
Several people have been detained for interrogation in this connection.
No arrests, however, have been made yet.
Condemning the incident, former chief minister N Biren Singh earlier condoled the girl's death.
