Senapati, January 25 2023:
All Manipur Health Services Doctors' Association (AMHSDA) has come out strongly against alleged inac tion of the state government towards the demands raised by the association till date.
In a release, AMHSDA stated that instead of solving its two years old genuine demands, the state government is resorting to divisive policy and complicating the pending issue by comparing with other unrelated organised services.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made a pronouncement extending the superannuation age of doctors from 60 years to 65 years on May 26, 2016 for central government and states which did not cover other government services, it noted, while adding that the PM had also stated that it is out of necessity as there is acute shortage of doctors in India and it takes more than five years to pro duce one doctor.
AMHSDA also pointed out that the first BJP led government had extended the superannuation age of MHS doctors to 65 years on August 30, 2017.Many other states have even extended the superannuation age of doctors to 68, 70, etc.
Superannuation age of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) doctors were also extended to 65 years as administrative post, but surprisingly the service tenure of Manipur Health Services Doctors was cut down to 62 years in an order issued by the same BJP led government on January 17, 2020 which contradicted the PM's interest and announcement, it mentioned.
The release further emphasised that chief minister himself had said that there is shortage of specialists and doctors in the state on January 18, 2023, in a public meeting and as such it is questionable why is there partiality between JNIMS doctors and MHS doctors when both exist in the same state.
Meanwhile, on contacting over phone, AMHSDA general secretary Dr Lolee P Mao stated that the Association is ready to intensify, their agitation, if the state government does not pay heed to their demands.
He also said that their protest would start any moment and any time if the grievances were not addressed
at the earliest.
