Senapati, July 24 2014:
Lamenting over the deplorable condition of Maram-Koide-Purul road which connects most villages in Chiilivai areas under Purul sub-division of Senapati district, Purul Youth & Student's Organization and Koide Youth & Students' Organization have warned the contractor and the concerned department for repeated negligence of the road.
A joint statement of the two organisations said the condition of the said road is becoming hazardous and seriously posing threat to public safety.
It explained that hundreds of vehicles especially those carrying travellers from remote villages have to ride through a dangerous hilly terrain filled with potholes, slippery ground, unmaintained drain and landslide.
It added that the Maram-Koide-Road connects not only 27 villages in Lepaona areas and most Chiilivai area villages under the Purul sub-division but also with some villages in Paomata area.
The present condition of the road, however, has worsened during the past two years.
Resenting over the indifferent attitude of the department officials particularly Executive Engineer even after assurance to instruct the contractor who is believed to be a local man, the two bodies have warned that the contractor and the department will be held responsible if any cases of accident or injury is caused due to the worsening condition of the road.
It may be noted that, PYSO, Chiilivai Youth and Students and Koide Union had earlier demanded repairing and development of the said road according to standard norms.
However, PYSO and KYSO alleged that, such demands of the people were completely neglected.
Sending out a strong warning, the two bodies said that if the assurance of PWD Senapati Division Executive Engineer to look into the matter at the earliest fails again, then they will be compelled to take up appropriate actions against the concerned department and the contractor, for which the latter will be solely responsible for any consequences.
