Kakching, December 22 2024:
A public meeting in connection with the present crisis in the state was organised by World Meetei Council (WMC) at Lamjao Mayai Leikai Panthoibi Shanglen on Saturday.
In a statement, WMC Manipur unit president Urikhinbam Kunjo expressed that the response of the minister concerned regarding the issue raised by MP Bimol Akoijam in the Parliament regarding the inclusion of Meeteis in the ST list under the Indian Constitution, cannot be taken lightly.
He also stated that it is both unfortunate and surprising that chief minister N Biren claimed he was not informed of any intelligence report from the home department for 15 months, despite being the head of the state.
The statement further said that while the chief minister makes one statement, the union home minister makes another, leaving the people of the state confused.
This situation has arisen because the state appears to be lacking strong leadership.
The statement also appealed to political leaders of the state who are capable of restoring peace and facilitating the safe return of displaced people to their homes, urging them to step forward and take necessary actions.
Additionally, WMC urged chief minister N Biren to clarify why he has not sent the required documents regarding the inclusion of Meetei in the ST list to the Centre, as requested by the union minister on the floor of Parliament.
