Education minister lists state's initiatives at NE Conclave

Education minister S Rajen Singh on Saturday attended the two-day North East Education Conclave held at Guwahati Medical College and Hospital in Guwahati.
In his address, minister Rajen said that as the Government of India has introduced the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Manipur received a golden opportunity to replenish the society with age-old traditions and value system alongside achieving the Sustainable Developmental Goals (SDGs).
The aim of education in ancient India was not just the acquisition of knowledge as preparation for life in this world or life beyond schooling, but for complete realisation and liberation of "self", he noted.
Minister Rajen maintained that Manipur has been focusing on the developmental works related to education sector especially under 'School Fagathansi Mission (SFM)' .
The state government particularly the Education Department has been trying to give the government schools a makeover in its infrastructure and all requirements of an educational institution.
"The fruits of our SFM initiative could be seen in the recent enrolments," he added.
The minister also highlighted that Manipur, being the 'Jewel of India' has been bestowed with rich culture and heritage and highlighted that Manipuri is one of the few languages which have been included in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution and the only language in the entire North East India to have its own script.
Rajen also informed that regarding higher education the government has started implementing the national scheme of RUSA from 2018.However, the fund received for the same is not adequate and more financial grants will be required for furthering the growth and progress of the university.
He also informed that in addition to Dhanamanjuri University, Manipur Technical University is offering technical courses but has been functioning without a proper campus of its own.
But now, 116 acres of land have been allotted for setting up the varsity campus.
Proposal submitted for establishment of permanent campus at the site allotted through the Union Ministry of DoNER under 10 per cent GBS needs positive consideration, the minister stressed.
Minister Rajen also talked about many more initiatives of the state government to improve the education sector in the state.
Union minister of state for education and external affair Dr RK Ranjan also attended the conclave which was chaired by Union minister of education Dr Dharmendra Pradhan.
