Bishnupur, April 19 2025:
A sit-in protest was staged on Saturday at Nambol Hao Keithel organised by Nambol Municipal Ex-Councillors Welfare Association, opposing the proposed delimitation process in Manipur based on the 2001 census data.
The demonstration was led by the Association's president Ch Basanta, secretary H Arunjit, treasurer L Pateshwori Devi, advisor and former chairperson T Ibochou and former councillors O Ibotombi and O Ibochou.
Speaking at the event, former councillor Okram Ibotombi strongly criticised the central government's move to conduct the delimitation process using the census report of 2001 .
He warned that such a step, if implemented in Manipur, could lead to unrest and jeopardise the unity and integrity of the state.
Stressing the need to first identify and address the issue of illegal settlers in the state, Ibotombi urged the central government to act in accordance with the aspirations of the indigenous people and take concrete steps to protect their rights and preserve the state's unity.
