JAC Noney VDF accident demands ex-gratia, jobs

Noney, December 18 2021:
Following the failure of the truck owners and drivers' union to extend necessary help to the families of two VDF personnel who were killed after being knocked down by a truck near Noney police check post in Noney district on Friday, a JAC formed against the accidental death of Amos Bariampan and Agaiba Balang has raised certain demands including payment of ex - gratia and providing jobs to the next to kin of the deceased personnel.
The JAC was formed after a public meeting held on Saturday at Longmai bazar with Gangonglung Khumba as chairman and James Inkah as secretary.
Later, the JAC called an emergency meeting and resolved that the next of kin of the deceased VDF personnel who were breadwinners of the families should be given suitable job by the government as the accidental death happened while on duty.
Another resolution is that ex-gratia should be provided to both the bereaved families as per relevant norms on humanitarian ground by the government.
All expenditures including transport, ritual and customary activities, funeral materials and memorial stone erection should be borne by the truck owner.
The damaged Pulsar (motorbike) should also be replaced or repaired by the truck owner, another point said.
Speaking to media persons, JAC chairman Gangonglung Khumba informed that the bodies will not be claimed and, intense forms of agitations will be launched including imposition of ban on national projects and total shutdown along NH-37 road if the demands of the JAC are not fulfilled by 4.30 pm of Sunday.
