Preservation of art forms must: Naba Wareppa

As a part of the month-long theatre workshop based on Moirang Parva', Theatre Centre Manipur and Manipur State Shumang Leela Council jointly organised a four-day festival of the different Manipuri narrative art forms at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound here on Saturday.
The inaugural function presided by Manipur State Shumang Leela Council president M Purnimasi was held with JN Manipur Dance Academy director Pukhrambam Bilash as chief guest.
In his speech, Theatre Centre chairman and project director of the workshop (Padmashree) Naba Wareppa expressed concern that the identity and culture of the land is slowly fading and further stressed the need for preservation of the age old art forms.
The culture and tradition are portrayed in art forms like Pena Phamsak and Khongjom Parva, however, blending the art forms is diluting it originality, he maintained.
Observing that negligence on the inseparable art forms by present generations led to an indiscipline society, Naba Wareppa mentioned that the festival is being organised to make the artistes know about the age old art forms and traditions.
Chief guest Pukhrambam Bilash lauded the organisers for conducting such workshop and festival so to make the younger generations know about the various art forms of the land in a proper way.
He also urged the people for preservation and protection of the art forms.
The narrative art forms namely Pena Phamsak and Khongjom Parva were shown on the first day of the festival and other narrative art forms including Lairik Haiba Thi-ba', Wari Leeba (Mahabharat) and 'Meetei Puya Wari Leeba1 will be presented during the festival.
