Imphal, July 17 2013:
The myriad cases of crime and violence against women in the State cannot be checked unless police establishments in the State are reformed, Secretary of Apunba Manipur Kanba Lup Gyaneshwari has argued on the ineffectiveness of State Home Department to punish the culprits in gang-rape of a minor girl at Masjid Road.
Addressing media persons at the office of Zeliangrong Union here today, the Secretary said that Home Minister and top officials of Manipur Police Department should be held responsible for rising cases of crime and violence against women in the State.
She condemned the inefficiency of the police to cull proper evidences against the main accused Naorem Pritam of Nongmeibung.
He has been let off by the police on ground of being juvenile.
However, the date of birth of the accused Pritam was found to be 3/02/1994 when some social organizations investigated the records of Ananda Singh Higher Secondary School where he studied.
The report of ossification test (to determine age) is also not revealed by the authorities, Gyaneshwari decried.
The organizations would continue to launch intense agitations unless the culprits are booked and punished for their heinous crime against women, she averred.
