Imphal, May 17 2022:
Federal Students' Organisation, Kangleipak (FESOK) has launched a signature campaign against the move to make Hindi compulsory in the northeast states up to class 10, from Tuesday.
The campaign was kicked off from DM College of Science campus where hundreds of students of the college appended their signatures.
Interacting with the media, FESOK education and library secretary N Rikesh Mangang said that they are keeping the target of collecting signatures of 50,000 students and submit objection letters to Prime Minister, Union Home Minister and other authority concerned.
Terming the imposition as a policy to annihilate the smaller indigenous communities, he said that they will take the campaign to both hills and valley districts.
Recalling how the organisation adopted several resolutions in this regard during a public meeting held on April 24, which were submitted to the state government, Rikesh demanded the state government to declare its stand over the matter.
He also decried the government for not taking up any initiatives for recognition of Manipuri language as a classical language.
He also appealed to all the indigenous communities of the state to participate in the signature campaign against Hindi imposition.
