SFs seize arms, ammunition, explosive, timber logs

A combined team of state and central security forces on Tuesday conducted search operation at different locations and recovered arms and ammunition including bomb.
According tp police, 37 Assam Rifles and Kakching district commando unit Conducted search at Utangpokpi village under Sugnu police station from 1.15 pm till 2.30 pm and recovered a country-made pistol with magazine, five 36 HE Indian hand grenades, one SLR magazine, a Baofeng handset, one 2-inch smoke shell and three BP vests.
Meanwhile, around 7 am on Tuesday personnel of 5/9 GR, SSB and Bishnupur district commando along with Nambol police conducted search operation in Aigejang and Irengbam areas and recovered arms and ammunition including bomb.
The recoveries include one carbine, two pistols with magazine, a revolver, one flare pistol, 1.4 kg IED, three 21 mm HE mortar shells, one 51 HE mortar shell, two 2-inch smoke shell, one 2 inch mortar ILLU ammunition, four HE hand grenades without detonator, Plastic Explosive Kirke (PEK) IED, 55 rounds of 7.62 mm, 52 rounds of US carbine, five ballistic cartridges, one remote (off white colour) IED, 16 IED fuse, one heavy morse key, two Motorola walkie talkie, one Icom walkie talkie, two AK-47 magazines, 24 HE detonators, two tube launchers with ring, a lever of 36 HE hand grenade, three helmets, three BP jackets, seven cleaning rods and three 2-inch empty smoke shell.
On the other-hand, Assam Rifles foiled illegal timber smuggling in Wamkhu village, Chandel district, on Monday.
According to PRO IGAR (S), vigilant troops of Assam Rifles during an area domination patrol in Wamku-Charlong-Khonjol area intercepted three trucks which on examining were found ferrying 20 timber logs illegally.
The entire seizure along with six individuals and three vehicles have been handed over to District Forest Officer, Chandel for further investigation, said the PRO in a release.
