Awareness on rights of LGBTQIA+ community held

Under the aegis of Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA), District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Imphal West organised a one-day legal awareness programme in collaboration with Ya_All: The Youth Network, Imphal, on the topic 'The Rights and Entitlements of LGBTQIA+ Community Members and Related Supreme Court Judgments' at Chumthang Shannapung on Sunday.
As per a release by DLSA, the programme was aimed at shedding light on the legal rights, entitlements, and protection available to the LGBTQIA+ community, and update stakeholders concerned on relevant Supreme Court cases, ensuring that the rights of the marginalised group are respected and upheld.

The programme included interactive discussions, legal insights, and case studies that addressed the most pressing issues faced by LGBTQIA+ individuals in terms of their legal standing and societal acceptance.
The release also informed that the event conducted under the guidance of DLSA, Imphal West chairman Yumkham Rother was led by DLSA, Imphal West secretary and Imphal West Chief Judicial Magistrate Ashem Tarunakumari Devi.
Participants included the staff of the MASLSA, district legal services authorities, and members of Ya_All, Imphal.
As the resource person, Human Rights Law Network (Manipur) director Meihou-bam Rakesh deliberated on relevant topics.
The programme was followed by a friendly football match, it further said.
