CVC petitioned to address land encroachment woes

Imphal, January 16 2025:
Affected Land & Property Owners' Committee (ALPOC), Tamenglong has sent a petition to the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) to initiate necessary action against land encroachment by the contractors engaged under the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) on Tamanglong-Mahur road (NH 137) .
In a release, ALPOC chairman JD Gambui informed that the petition addressed to the CVC secretary was sent on January 12 for action against land encroachers in between Tamenglong to Haflong/Mahur road 0-96.780 km along the NH 137 .
The petition claimed that a No Objection Certificate (NOC) was issued illegally by the fehon Tamenglong district commissioner, line department and village authority former chairman/secretary and the said road was constructed by the NHIDCL contractors, without notification and hearing of objection under the Land Acquisition Act of 2013 .
ALPOC also contended that during construction many valuable standing properties were damaged with complaints raised by people settling in Dailong, Tamenglong (Inrianglong), Namtiram, Phellong, Azuram, Mandeu and Tousem areas situation along the NH 137 were ignored by authority concerned.
Further stating that the government of India had also compensated the affected landowners of the said road between Jiri river to Mahur in Assam, it lamented that tribal people of the seven villages of Manipur were depreciated due to ignorance and denial of justice for the land acquisition by the NHIDCL.
