Rupmahal Drama Festival begins

Along with participation by 13 different theatre groups, the 14th Rupmahal Artistes Memorial Drama Festival 2013 being organized by Rupmahal Theatre Imphal commenced from yesterday.
Speaking as Chief Guest of the inaugural function, S Vedeshwor Sharma, Secretary of Manipur State Kala Akademi stated that the drama festival will enable theatre groups of the State to showcase their plays and provide opportunity for artistes to interact with each other for better cordial relationship amongst the theatre groups.
He also stressed on lack of support in the field of drama which has caused hindrance to going parallel with the present globalized world and called upon the artistes to strive hard for excellence.
Pointing out that it would be necessary to ascertain the creative part of theatre at variant in order to organize the drama festival at international level, he maintained that financial support is much needed to hold workshop on theatre regularly and added that artistes should not be disheartened regardless of lack of support.
K Heramani, chairman of Rupmahal Theatre, who presided over the function, said the drama festival is being organized every year in remembrance of the late artistes of Rupmahal Theatre.
'Soura', a drama play by artistes of The Imphal Theatre, Wangkhei was staged on the first day of the festival.
