Senapati observes Rashtriya Poshan Maah

Under the National AYUSH Mission of State AYUSH Society, AYUSH Wing of District Hospital, Senapati observed the 5th Rashtriya Poshan Maah (national nutrition month) at the district hospital as part of the campaign on promotion of wellness through Yoga under the theme "Yoga at home, Yoga with family".
The programme is aimed at improving the nutritional outcome of children below 6 years of years, pregnant women and lactating mothers.
Speaking on the occasion, District Hospital's medical superintendent Dr M Sokha explained that target of the programme is to reduce cases of stunted babies, malnutrition mothers after birth and how to correct them.
Such causes might be the result of unhygienic living by mothers in a family.
Obesity could be the result of staying idle without work or drinking of much sugary items, she added.
The medical superintendent, while highlighting certain foods to stay healthy as well as to ensure a healthy baby for lactating mothers, encouraged consumption of fresh vegetables and fruits that are locally available in Senapati district.
She also stressed the importance of drinking milk by lactating mothers for healthy babies.
Dr Sumpi Percy, senior specialist at the district hospital, said that Poshan Maah is the PM Narendra Modi's overarching scheme for holistic nourishment and explained that essential food included those containing carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals.
The doctor urged all to change their food habits by eating a variety of nutritious foods that are required in a body for a healthy living.
Dr Kiran Angom, paediatrician of the hospital, spoke on "Nutrition in children below 6 years and lactating mothers" with a demonstration of correct posture for breast feeding while Dr Viswanath, state AYUSH officer, deliberated on performance of the state AYUSH in treating the sick.
Dr Athia Sylvia Saprunamei, MO in charge, AYUSH, District Hospital, Senapati spoke on "AYUSH and nutrition".
Later, YOGA demonstration for pregnant and lactating mothers was held.
Nutritional supplements and medicines were also distributed to the mothers.
