MUC VC hails RKCS artworks as state assets

Manipur University of Culture vice-chancellor professor Paonam Gunindro equated the artworks of renowned artist RKCS as invaluable assets of the state.
The vice chancellor shared his opinion during the birth centenary celebration of RKCS, organised by the RKCS Birth Centenary Celebration Committee at JN Manipur Dance Academy hall, here on Sunday.
Attending as the chief guest, Prof Gunindro praised RKCS for his contributions towards preservation of Manipuri culture and history through his art.
He noted that every great artist has a unique vision, and RKCS was no exception.
His paintings closely tied to the state's culture, history, and traditions tell compelling stories and hold immense value for future generations, noted the vice chancellor.
The event was presided over by celebration committee chairperson Dr Keisham Sobita, while JNMDA vice-chairman Longjam Joychandra was the guest of honour.
Speaking at the event, celebration committee secretary RK Budhibanta shared insights into the life of RKCS, noting that he began painting under guidance of his father and became a professional artist after World War II.
RKCS established an art studio in 1947, with film posters being among his earliest professional works.
He also published children's textbooks on painting and handwriting practice books, demonstrating his dedication to nurturing artistic talent from a young age.
Budhibanta further announced that the birth centenary celebration will continue throughout the year, featuring a variety of activities to honour RKCS's legacy.
During the event, prizes were distributed to winners of a painting competition organised in connection with the celebration.
Four prominent visual artists were also felicitated in recognition of their contributions to the held.
Additionally, a souvenir titled 'Chahi Chammagee Khongchat' (Journey of 100 Years) was released to mark the occasion.
