Imphal, July 13 2021:
While the government is focused on National highway projects, many inter-village roads (IVRs) in the state are continuing to remain in dilapidated condition, said Manipur People's Party (MPP).
In a statement, MPP vice president Dr S Ibomcha said that the claim made by the BJP government of improving the roads in the state over Road Transport Union minister Nitin Gadkari's announcement of Rs 4148 crore for 16 highway projects (NH 39,59 and 129) spanning 298 km, is nothing but part of the government's duties.
Even the Congress party had taken up various highway projects during its time in power, which is something every political party is expected to do once they are in power.
"However, the many IVRs in the 60 constituencies of the state are in dilapidated condition and almost inaccessible.
Instead, the present works minister Th Biswajit seems to be more focused on constructing new roads along thinly-populated hilly areas", observed the vice president while urging the government to relook at the IVRs and help repair them at the earliest.
Appreciating YFO and the local clubs for repairing the IVR along Burma-Sugnu Road and making it more accessible, Dr Ibomcha said that both the local MLA and the works minister should be ashamed of themselves.
Furthermore, BJP is deliberately trying to mislead the people of improving the highways when the state highways and IVRs are in worse condition.
He then suggested the state and central BJP governments to look into the matter and focus on improving the IVRs.
