Bishnupur, September 12 2024:
A rally was organised by COCOMI Students' Front (DESAM, KSA, SUK, AIMS & another student body) on Thursday with participation of students of colleges and schools and meira paibi activists of the district to demand cessation of the alleged proxy war by India in the ongoing conflict in the state, nefarious agenda to annihilate the Meeteis, withdrawal of central security forces, etc.
The rally starting from Kha Potsangbam public ground passed along the Tiddim line, with the participants torching effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Assam Rifles former DG PC Nair, Union Home minister Amit Shah and security adviser Kuldiep Singh along the route.
On reaching the gate of Bishnupur DC complex, a 20-member students' delegation submitted a memorandum to deputy commissioner Lourembam Bikram.
Speaking to media persons, COCOMI Students' Front media co-ordinator Sukham Bidyahanda informed that the rally was part of the protest march of students and public against the central government's support to Kuki militants instead of resolving the crisis and taking firm action against the guilty party.
Stating that people are suspicious about centre's failure to bring a solution to the present turmoil even after 15 months of intermittent violence, the coordinator opined that stoic silence by the centre despite attacks on state's denizens with use of drone bombs and rockets and threat to national security, validates public apprehension that the central authorities are scheming annihilation of Meetei community.
Bidyananda stated that the memorandum containing demands for ceasing divide and rule policy, centre's proxy war, etc., was handed over to the DC for further presentation to Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya.
He also affirmed that more such rallies will be held in other district.
