Seven arrested, ex-MLA faces grenade threat

In separate incidents, security forces arrested seven cadres of different banned outfits in the past 48 hours while police recovered two hand grenades close to residence of a former MLA.
The grenades were reportedly left by unknown miscreants near the Pheijaleitong house of former MLA Bijoy Koijam on Wednesday morning.
According to a police source, family members spotted a grenade near the gate and informed the police, whose subsequent search of the area led to recovery of the second explosive device.
In denunciation of the grenade threat, local Meira Paibi members staged a sit-in protest at the Agro Market Shed in Thongju Part-1 Pheijaleitong on Wednesday.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, Meira Paibi secretary N Pishak urged for resolving all disagreements through talks and not to repeat such acts in residential areas.
Meanwhile, Imphal West district police arrested four active cadres of the armed KCP (PWG) during search operation at Kameng Sabal village under Lamsang police station on Wednesday morning.
The arrested cadres have been identified as Takhelmayum Victor (23) son of T Ingocha Meitei of Nongpok Sanjenbam Khunou; Huidrom Vikash Singh (25) son of H Basanta Singh of Langthabal Kunja Awang Leikai; Oinam Naocha (18) son of O Biren of Moidangpok Khunjao Awang Leikai; and Awungshi John (33) son of late Awungshi Pangai of Tangkhul Avenue.
One each pistol with magazine, 9mm pistol with six rounds, Baofeng handset, Royal Enfield motorcycle, Avenger motorcycle, two .32 pistols with seven rounds, 113 donation cards and three mobile handsets were seized from the four, who have been arrested persons were handed over to Lamsang police station for further actions.
On the other hand, Kakching district police commandos arrested an active cadre of KCP (City Meitei) identified as Moirangthem Gobin alias Khaba Meitei (38) son of M Ibotombi of Langathel Ingkholnung Leikai from Irupal area on Wednesday around 1 pm.
Two mobile phones and an i20 Asta car (MN03P-7854) were seized from Gobin, who has been handed over to Kakching police station.
Meanwhile a release issued by Manipur Police Control Room informed that two active cadres of PREPAK (Pro), identified as Ashem Dinesh Meetei (41) alias Aningba and Huidrom Tomba Singh (36), were rounded up from Namdulong-Khuman Lampak main stadium road on Tuesday.
Items recovered from the duo included two mobile handsets, a two-wheeler vehicle, two wallets containing Rs 9260 and a leaflet of PREPAK (Pro).
Police also arrested an active cadre of KCP (PWG) identified as Thongam Bidyasagar Singh (22) from Langol Game Village Zone 2 and seized three mobile phones, four chargers and three Baofeng handsets from him, besides recovering 58 tear smoke casings.
