Imphal, November 11 2024:
Leadership Council of Thang-Ta (LCTT), Manipur has strongly condemned the killing of Sapam Sophiya Devi by Kuki militants, and demanded thorough probe by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) into the incident and swift punishment of the perpetrators.
In a release, LCTT contended that India's wrong policies have inadvertently emboldened Kuki militants to carry out coordinated attacks, and insisted that the Saiton incident be thoroughly investigated by the NIA to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
The release further informed that the family of the deceased woman is among the farmers of Saiton who could not tend to their field due to the conflict.
Amid the demand for releasing compensation to farmers affected by the violence in the previous season, it is depressing that farmers are exposed to serious risk in carrying out agricultural activities in foothill areas this year, too.
The Council further urged the government to take necessary measures and provide security to farmers in areas including Phubala, Naranseina, Thamnapokpi, Ngangkhalawai, Tronglaobi, Terakhongshangbi, Kwakta Torenmapan, Torbung and Saiton.
At the same time, the Council also noted that the statement of Mizoram CM undermines the territorial integrity of Manipur and sovereignty of India, and demanded legal action against the CM under IPC section 124-A (Sedition) and IPC section 34."Mizoram CM should not misguide his people," it advised.
Meanwhile, Moirang Kendra Apunba Loumee Shinmi Amasung Nupi Lup, in another release, denounced the killing of Sapam Sophiya Devi by Kuld militants while working in the paddy field.
