Security tightened, KNLA cadre arrested

Imphal, August 11 2022:
In continuation of strict measures ahead of the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, a team of Imphal West district commandos conducted search operation in Moirangkhom, Chingakham Leirak, Chingakham Leikai and Yaiskul Hiruhanba Leirak areas on Thursday morning and verified 150 people.
Another team of the district commando carried out searches in Major Khul, Kalibari and Gurudwara areas in the evening during which 140 people were verified and four without identification documents were handed over to City police station.
All of them were later released after proper verification.
A team of Thoubal commando unit also conducted house-to-house search operation at Athokpam Mamang and Awang Leikai from 4.30 pm 6.10 pm Thursday while Bishnupur district commandos searched 40 houses in Bishnupur Khuman area near DC office from 4.20 pm till 5.30 pm and verified 73 people.
However, no arrests were made, the report conveyed.
Meanwhile, a team of Special Commando Unit, Khabeisoi apprehended a cadre of the armed Kuki National Liberation Army (KNLA) from near Thongnambonbi (hump bridge), here on Wednesday.
The arrested cadre has been identified as Hendavida (35) s/o Lunkham of Torbung, Churachandpur District.
According to a source, based on information shared by 16 Assam Rifles around 6.10 pm on Wednesday, the team went to Wahengbam Leikai Jiri Parking and arrested Hendavida fromnear the bridge.
On questioning, Hendavida revealed that he is an active cadre of KNLA and worked under the command of outfit's Angamkhogin Kipgen and Tinthang Haokip.
Hendavida has been handed over to City PS, the report conveyed.
