Imphal, August 11 2021:
While declaring boycott of the 75th Independence Day celebration of India, United People's Revolutionary Front of Manipur (UPRFM) has declared 12 hours total shutdown in entire Manipur on August 15 from 6 am.
Announcing this in a statement, the armed outfit said that the Independence Day of India, which was formed after annexing several sovereign nations, has no relation with the people of Kangleipak (Manipur) and it is the reason of declaring the total shutdown.
In its existence as a sovereign nation with written history of over 2000 years, Kangleipak was never been part of India in any sense including administration, social and economic matters.
Kangleikap lost its freedom to British after suffering defeat in the Anglo-Manipuri War 1891 and got independence on August 14,1947 following which a democratic form of government was elected after holding elections in June-July, 1948 .
On the other hand, India, which got independence on August 15,1947 and adopted a written constitution in 1951, annexed several princely nations in the guise of a democratic nation and continued the colonial legacy.
As a result, sovereign nations like Tripura, Kangleipak, Jammu & Kashmir and Nizams of Hyderabad were annexed into the Indian Union.
The annexation of Kangleipak was also carried out in a fraudulent manner after keeping the then king Bodhchandra under house arrest in Shillong on September 21, 1949.It then stated that the time has come for the people of Kangleipak to retrospect their relation with celebration of India's Independence Day.
Since the merger, the once sovereign nation has been suffering in terms of economy, socio-political, administration and health care.
The Independence Day of India cannot replace the freedom of Kangleipak to the people who are still longing for self-determination and as such, UPRFM is boycotting the celebration with a 12-hour total shutdown, it explained.
The front also appealed to the people of Kangleipak to support the call and boycott the Independence Day celebration.
However, the shutdown will not cover life-saving activities, medical, religious events, media and other essential services, the statement added.
