Meet agrees for fresh survey of Yaithibi Loukol

A joint meeting of land owners of Sora area along with elected representatives, department officials and district administration regarding the issues surrounding Yaithibi Loukol held on Monday has resolved to conduct a fresh survey of the acquired land.
The meeting was attended by Wangjing Tentha MLA P Brojen, Kakching MLA M Rameshwar, Kakching ZP up-adhyaksha Md Nazimuddin, Pallel GP pradhan Md Mukimuddin, Irengband GP pradhan Md Badur Jaman, revenue & settlement director and DC Thoubal.
The resolutions to conduct fresh survey and stop any activities until the survey were taken after the meeting could not arrive at an understanding about the 350 acres of land area already acquired and compensated as stated by the government.
Earlier, Sora witnessed tense situation last week after the district administration carried out eviction drive against illegal encroachers in Yaithibi Loukol area and local residents objecting to the eviction drive.
Imphal-Moreh highway was also blocked for a couple of days by protesters resulting in violent clash between police and protesters on Friday, in which several people were injured.
The indefinite highway bandh was suspended following an understanding to settle the issue through dialogue and discussion.
Mention may be made here that large area of agricultural land was acquired during the Congress government for construction of National Sports University (NSU) .
However, the site of NSU shifted to Imphal West district and the BJP government plans to set up a mega food park there.
