Imphal, February 11 2025:
Former member of Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) Yambem Laba has expressed regret over his remarks regarding the Pambei-led United National Liberation Front (UNLF) and tendered his sincere apology to the Front and also the people of Manipur.
Yambem Laba sat together with officials of Pambei-led UNLF's publicity department somewhere in Imphal West district on Tuesday.
Acknowledging the movement of the Front for liberation movement of Manipur for over 60 years, Laba confessed that he made discouraging remarks against the Pambei-led UNLF on personal interest and accepted his mistakes.
Laba was then handed over to his family, safe and sound.
Accepting his mistakes, Yambem Laba told reporters after the meeting that he participated in a discussion on the social media channel New TV, where he made disparaging remarks about the Pambei-led UNLF and even referred to the organisation as a surrendered party.
He also clarified that there was no threat or any word from the Pambei-led UNLF to remove the post he uploaded on social media platform 'Facebook' regarding reports of exchange of arrested Kuki leader Mark T Haokip with two Meetei youths nabbed by Kukis in Kangpokpi in October, 2024 .
Noting that his mistakes had maligned the image of Pambei-led UNLF, Yambem Laba sought pardon from the organisation and the people of Manipur for the mistakes he made.
Laba also declared his personal decision not to take part in any discussion on social media or television channels in future.
Earlier in the day, Laba's family said that on Monday, he had made certain comments in a media discussion on the situation in the state in the aftermath of Chief Minister Biren Singh's resignation.
At around 3 am on Tuesday, a group of armed men came to Laba's residence at Uripok in Imphal West district and forced him to go with them, officials said.
Laba's elder brother Yambem Angamba told reporters: "Yesterday, during a media discussion, Laba spoke about the present political crisis after CM Biren Singh's resignation.
He also talked about the contenders for the CM post.
Police visited his house on Tuesday morning after the family lodged an FIR (after the abduction)" .
