Imphal, November 10 2024:
Lok Sabha MP Dr Bimol Akoijam has highlighted that Manipur's current hardships are primarily due to leadership failures and ineffective governance.
Speaking at an interaction programme organised by New Development Organisation, Singjamei (NDOS) at the residence of social worker Oinam Romen of Singjamei Oinam Thingel on Sunday, Dr Bimol expressed concern over the state's decline, emphasising that without sincere and responsible leaders, the state's ability to stand with pride is compromised.
Dr Bimol also voiced concern that Manipur which boasts a written history spanning over 2000 years as a sovereign nation has now been reduced to a state of complete submission to the Centre's commands.
Such subservience would prevent Manipur from regaining its pride and dignity, he said.
The MP also attributed the state's current struggles to lack of sincerity and commitment among government leaders, while accusing them of failing to fulfil their responsibilities.
He reminded the audience that public leadership is not a permanent position and highlighted the importance of understanding democracy as a system where power lies with the people.
Urging citizens to break free from the practice of accepting cash in exchange for votes, Dr Bimol stressed the need for public awareness about the true essence of elections in a democratic system.
A public leader should not mislead the people or engage in double standards, Dr Bimol stressed and pointed to the last Lok Sabha election as a moment when the people of Manipur demonstrated their power by defeating candidates backed by muscle and money power.
He encouraged voters to continue this trend in future elections by choosing representatives who are sincere and dedicated to serving the public.
The MP assured the attendees that he would demonstrate what an MP can accomplish during his five-year term, underscoring that, in a democracy, the people are supreme, not the elected representatives.
Bimol also addressed the blame game currently prevalent in political circles, where the BJP has attributed the state's crisis to the failures of previous governments.
He argued that the real cause is ineffective administration and that it is essential for leaders to have the courage to acknowledge their own mistakes.
