Three arrested with large quantity of opium

In continuation of War against Drugs drive, state police in two separate operations arrested three people with opium weighing 7.255 kg and 1.44 kg from Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts respectively.
A team of Churachandpur Police on Friday arrested two people identified as Hoikim Suante (40), wife of Late Ngaipu Suante of Pangzawl village under Thingkhangphai sub-division and Seikhohao Guite (42), son of Hemlun Guite of V Mun-hoi village, New Lamka.
They were found in possession of 7.255 kg of opium and cash amounting to Rs 7.6 lakh in total.
According to police reports, around 4.30 pm Friday, Chura chandpur Police received information that one white colour Bolero (MN01AK- 2365) is transporting consignment of opium in Churachandpur town area and it is on its.
way from Boljang to New Lamka side along Tiddim Road.
Accordingly, Churachandpur police station OC inspector N Ingocha Singh, along with two other teams started a lookout for the said vehicle along Tiddim Road.
At about 4:50 pm, the vehicle was intercepted in front of Churachandpur police station.
On checking the vehicle in the presence of witnesses, the police team detected a plastic packet containing opium weighing 6.285 kg.
The packet was kept concealed behind the driver's seat along with Rs 2.6 lakh in cash.
In follow up action, another plastic packet containing 970 gm of opium, one weighing machine and a sum of Rs 5 lakh in cash were recovered from the house of Hoikim Suante.
In connection with the arrest and seizure, a case has been registered at Churachandpur police station.
Meanwhile, a team of Phougakchao Ithai police station led by its OC inspector Subhaschandra K during a frisking and checking operation at Pholjang Bazar along Gothol road detained one person who identified himself as Ngamkhopao (28), son of Janglhun Haokip of Tolbung, Chakpikarong, Chandel district.
According to police report, on searching the accused, the police team recovered three plastic packets containing opium weighing approximately 1.44 kg.
Accordingly, the said three plastic packets were seized.
The arrested person and the seized items have been subsequently handed over to Moirang police station for further legal action.
