The United People's Front (UPF), Manipur observed 191st death anniversary of Chinglen Nongdrenkhomba or Maharaj Gambhir Singh as National Reconsolidation Day-2025 with the theme 'Eikhoi Amuk Hanna Khuntaklaroi' at Hao ground, Chinga Mathak on Thursday.
As part of the observance, a large number of people took out a procession from Langthabal to Hao ground after offering floral tributes to the statue of Maharaj Gambhir Singh at Langthabal.

UPF president N Rupachandra, All Manipur Meitei Pangal Development Organisation chief advisor BM Allaudin, Zeliangrong Union (Manipur & Nagaland) vice president Athai Kamei, COCOMI coordinator So-morendro Thokchom, AMUCO president Pheiroijam Nando Luwang, CCSK president Jitendra Ningomba, HERICOUN president Yumkhaibam Surjitkumar Khuman, IPSA president Maibam Biseshwar and UCM president YK Dhiren attended the observance function as presidium members.
Regarding the observance, UPF president N Rupachandra said a life-size statue of Maharaj Gambhir Singh was unveiled at Chandrapur on December 23, 2023 with the idea that Manipuri society would have extinct had Maharaj Gambhir Singh's Manipur Levy not come to Manipur and forced out the invaders from Awa (Burma).
After unveiling of the statue, UPF conducted awareness programmes on the role played by Maharaj Gambhir Singh in defending the land and even conducted camera meetings and street corner and public meetings at different corners of the state.
"Today's generation pays floral tributes to Maharaj Gambhir Singh for defending Manipur in the past and future generation will not happy if today's generation does not save Manipur," he said and urged for defending Manipur with unity and collective efforts.
UPF advisor Leishangthem Jadumani said that the present situation in Manipur is similar to the day of seven years of devastation when Awa invaded Manipur.
"Just as Awa forces killed children by burning dried chillies inside houses during the seven years of devastation, an eight months old infant was brutally killed in the present violence in Manipur.
Such incidents have created fear among the people if a fresh devastation is coming soon and UPF observed the event with the united pledge to preempt any devastation," he added.
Deeply concerned over government's changing narratives on the genesis of the present violence, Leishangthem Jadumani said CSOs of the state are ready to extend help towards bringing back peace and normalcy in the state if government is sincere, have courage and work with maturity.
