Imphal, December 08 2024:
All Uripok Apex Body (AUAB) organised a sit-in protest in front of Cheirap Court Complex in Uripok on Sunday, denouncing the case filed by National Investigation Agency (NIA) against Arambai Tenggol (AT) leader Korounganba Khuman, village volunteers, and the re-imposition of AFSPA in areas under the jurisdiction of six police stations.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the protest, AUAB advisor L Romenkumar strongly condemned the NIA's attempt to arrest AT leader Korounganba, calling it highly unfortunate.
He said that AT is a religious and peaceful organisation that originated from Sana Konung.
It was only after the crisis in Manipur that the AT volunteers, acting as village defenders, took up arms to protect Manipur and the Meetei community from the attacks of Kuki narco-terrorists.
He called on the NIA to immediately withdraw the charges against Korounganba.
Romenkumar also appealed to the relevant authorities to revoke the re-imposition of AFSPA in areas under the jurisdiction of six police stations in the state.
The Kangabam Leikai Apun-ba Nupi Marup, Naharol Welfare Club and Kangabam Leikai Youth Social Club also jointly organised a sit-in protest at Sagolband Kangabam Leikai.
The protest called for the declaration of Kuki militants as terrorists, removal of AFSPA and urgent need to trace Kamalbabu, who has been missing since November 26 after he went inside the 57th Mountain Division Headquarters in Leimakhong.
