3 dead, 4 injured in road accident

Imphal, September 08 2022: At least three people were killed and four others injured after a car rammed into the road median near the crossing leading to FCI Sangaiprou on Tiddim road under Lamphel PS on Wednesday night.

The three deceased have been identified as Konthoujam Bimolchand (35) s/o Raghumani and Thokchom Boy (35) s/o (L) Lokeshor of Sagolband Sayang Kurao Makhong, and Potshangbam Punshiba (35) s/o Ibomcha of Kodompokpi Mamang Leikai.

Of the four injured, one has been admitted to RIMS, another to Shija Hospital and the other two are undergoing treatment at Raj Medicity.

All 7 occupants in the silver colour Swift sustained grievous injuries and were immediately rushed to RIMS.

However, Thokchom Boy succumbed to his injuries on the way, while Potshangbam Punshiba died enroute to Shija Hospital.

Konthoujam Bimolchand was admitted to Shija and later passed away on Thursday morning.

According to a police report, all 7 of them were coming from Airport to Imphal in a silver colour Swift (MN05J-1198) when they hit the back of another Swift car (MN06LX-0043), which had just crossed the road near FCI Sangaiprou, before ramming into the road median at around 10.30 pm on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Lamphel PS OC P Khogendro said that the number of young people driving vehicles after getting high on drugs and alcohol has increased significantly.

This has led to frequent occurrences of road accidents, many of which have been fatal.

Thus, parent/guardians need to keep a close watch over their Wards to prevent such consequences.
