Imphal, April 08 2024:
Maintaining that the Kuki community orchestrated the ethnic crisis in retaliation to the War on Drugs, eviction of encroachers from forest land and identification of illegal immigrants through biometric capturing initiatives of the state government, Meitei Leepun has questioned the Congress' declaration to oust the state government in its manifesto.
In a statement, Meitei Leepun asserted that the Congress is trying to fulfil the demand of Kukis to remove the Chief Minister.
Stating that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been opposing NRC, the organisation asked if the Congress candidate would be able to do whatever needed in this regard.
It also referred to an earlier remark made by Congress general secretary Bhakta Charan Das blaming Meetei community for the crisis, and demanded a clarification from Congress party in this regard.
Meitei Leepun further said that Congress MP Kapil Sibal is fighting cases related with the crisis in the Supreme Court in favour of Kuki while questioning the party's stand.
The organisation also demanded BJP to make it clear what it had done and what it would do to resolve the crisis in the state.
It further expressed apprehension of the bloodshed continuing once the election is over, stating that both sides are unlikely to retreat.
