The bridge located along the Sugnu-Churachandpur road got damaged in attacks carried out by Kuki militants on Sugnu and Serou villages in Kakching district and Napat and Tangjeng Ahallup in Bishnupur district in May, 2023 .
As part of the government's effort to rehabilitate villagers back to Napat and Tangjeng Ahallup, a joint team of PWD Bishnupur Division AE Salam Anil, Kumbi MLA S Premchandra's PA S Herojit, Wangoo Borayangbi Gram Panchayat caretaker pradhan Romesh Thiyam, Sugnu SDPO Suresh Anthony and 131 Bn BSF commandant KS Nautiyal checked the bridge, which serves as an link for multiple villages.
During the inspection, the PWD team carried out a damage assessment of the bridge and identified the parts in need of replacement.
It may be mentioned that taking advantage of security lapses, Kuki militants crossed the bridge and torched houses at Napat and Tangjeng Ahallup villages in the intervening night of May 27 and 28, last year.
The targeted villages are flanked by Kuki settlements under Churachandpur district.
