Couple among four arrested with drugs

Imphal, July 07 2022:
A combined team of Lilong police station and 16 Assam Rifles on Wednesday arrested a couple identified as Ph Razag (36), son of Md Salauddin of Lilong Haoreibi Turel Ahanbi, and his wife Ngaikim Baite alias Rajia and recovered 40,000 WY tablets from them near Lilong AR Post.
The arrest of the couple also led to the nabbing of one Md Azad Khan (35), son of Md Liyaqat of Lilong Turel Ahanbi on the same day.
According to police reports, based on specific input, the combined team of Lilong police station and 16 AR conducted checking of vehicles coming from Moreh near Lilong AR post on Wednesday afternoon.
During the search of a bus coming from Moreh, the team spotted two detergent buckets which were then opened and found to contain 40,000 WY tablets estimated to be worth approximately Rs 1.80 crore in the international market.
On enquiry, it was found that the buckets belonged to the accused couple.
Initial interrogation of Ngaikim Baite led to the arrest of Md Azad Khan, who was supposed to pick up the drug consignment from the couple's house from where an Eeco van was also recovered.
The recovered items along with the accused persons were handed over to Lilong police station for further investigation.
In another drug-smuggling case, a woman from Churachandpur was arrested on Thursday from New Lamka, near Cemetery on the charge of possessing 51 grams or brown sugar.
The arrested woman has been identified as Lhinglalnga Singson (47), wife of Shokhohen Singson of Tuibong.
According to a reliable source, at about 1 pm, Lhinglalnga was found in possession of four soap cases of brown sugar weighing 51 grams.
The items were packed with a white cloth and sealed properly.
In this regard,-a case has been hied in Churachandpur Police Station against the accused for further investigation.
