Imphal, January 07 2025:
United People's Front (UPF) Manipur advisor Khomdram Ratan has called for genuine commitment to safeguard the state's sovereignty and urged the political class to abandon actions dictated by external influences.
Speaking at a public meeting held at Irabot Memorial Park, Keibi Manaching, as part of the 191st National Reconsolidation Month campaign on Tuesday, Ratan stressed that mere floral tributes to the forefathers will not suffice to save Manipur.
The meeting, jointly organised by UPF and Eramdam Kanba Lup (EKL), was also participated by leaders of different communities and organisations.

While highlighting the valour and sacrificial spirit of the forefathers in upholding Manipur's sovereignty and integrity, Ratan, however, expressed concern about the future generation's judgment if the present generation fails to protect the territory shaped by the ancestors' sacrifices.
Unity and a resolute stand for the state are imperative, he said.
United Committee Manipur (UCM) president YK Dhiren also addressed the gathering, emphasising the importance of a strong Meetei community in upholding Manipur's territorial integrity.
He warned that any weakening of the community could lead to exploitation and disintegration by multiple forces.
Dhiren recalled the co-existence of hill and valley dwellers in the past, marked by mutual respect and understanding, and lamented the divisive forces are at work to jeopardise the same today.
He then urged the indigenous people of Manipur to unite and counter the threats poped by what he described as the joint forces of the Government of India and Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists.
He also called on political leaders, regardless of their positions, to prioritise defending the state and urged the public against acting on emotions or unverified rumours.
UPF president Nongthombam Rupachandra, Irabot Memorial Trust Committee president Laishram Gunindro, EKL president H Ibohalbi, and leaders from various units of Arambai Tenggol also attended the public meeting.
