Imphal, November 06 2024:
While pointing out that the party fully believes in parliamentary democracy and Indian constitution, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has denounced Mizoram chief minister Lalduhoma's statement during a Chin-Kuki-Zo gathering in Indianapolis, United States on September 4, as it undermines integrity and unity of India.
Speaking to media persons at Congress Bhawan, here, on Wednesday, MPCC chief spokesperson Hareshwar Goshwami noted out that the contentious remarks of the Mizoram chief minister at the Indianapolis event are being widely circulated on different media platforms, including the publication by Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Mizoram.
It is unfortunate that such remark was made in the midst of the northeast region, Manipur in particular passing through a tumultuous time, he said, while terming the use of phrase 'There is an elephant in the room' by Lalduhoma as outrageous and unfortunate.
Stating that interfering in the unity and territorial integrity of Manipur by neighbouring states is not a recent phenomenon, Hareshwar recalled Mizo National Front (MNF) supremo Laldenga's claim in 1986 that Churachandpur was a part of Greater Mizoram.
However, the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi repeatedly rejected the claim for inclusion of Churachandpur under Greater Mizoram, he recalled.
Mizoram DIPR issued a statement about providing relief aid in the name of charity by church through USA based organisation.
More importantly, the Mizoram CM clearly mentioned about Chin-Kuki-Zo separated under three governments namely Myanmar, Bangladesh and India and further stressed the need integration under one leadership so as to attain nationhood, the chief spokesperson pointed out, adding that publication of Lalduhoma's remarks by the Mizoram DIPR make his statement official.
Recalling the statement by former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina about plan for creation of a Christian nation by white man and the demand to hand over St Martin Island in Bangladesh for setting up a naval base, Hareshwar opined that Sheikh Hasina was ousted for rejecting the proposal/demand.
Moreover, demand similar to that raised by Lalduhoma was apprised by World Kuki-Zo Intellectual Council to the United Nations secretary general on June 29,2023 in the form of memorandum demanding separate administration.
Hareshwar also wondered how the BJP government has failed to uncover the hidden international agenda, and questioned efficiency of the various central and state intelligence agencies vis-a-vis threat to the national security.
He also contended that people of Manipur and Northeast India are suffering due to the flawed foreign policy of the BJP.
