Imphal, September 06 2014 :
Strongly condemning the killing of two people and injuring many civilians who were participating in a peace rally against the imposition of 144 Cr.PC and denouncing deployment of a large number of security forces in Ukhrul town on August 30, Tribal Youth Council Manipur (TYCM) has urged the union government to initiate necessary intervention in the issue to ensure protection of the tribal people in Manipur and propose strong action against the Government of Manipur.
In a statement signed by its Spokesperson A.C.Raising, TYCM said, 'the Ukhrul citizens have been in a helpless condition as they are not receiving any concern from the concerned authorities and Government of India' .
Maintaining that India government has not yet intervened in this issue, TYCM demanded that the world's largest democracy should not stay silent when such brutal violations of human rights are occurring against its own citizens.
It alleged that brutal actions of the security forces were directly related to the communal policies of the Government led by Chief Minister, O.Ibobi Singh.
Deployment of large numbers of security forces at Ukhrul town in the name of giving protections to the people is a brutal attempt of the state government to dominate and exploit the lands and people through force for political benefits, it charged.
Quoting the Supreme Court judgement on Naga People's Movement, of Human Rights vs- Union of India, the statement pointed out that Supreme Court had issued directives to officers for minimal use of force while exercising the powers under prohibitory orders.
But to everyone's shock, Manipur state forces have acted in complete contravention to the SC guidelines, the statement alleged and demanded immediate withdrawal of IRBs and Commando personnel as well as 144 Cr.PC from Ukhrul town.
