Imphal, May 06 2015 :
Several social organizations have called an indefinite strike along Imphal Jiribam road besides enforcing another indefinite 'public curfew' in Moidangpok Keithelmanbi area in Imphal West from early morning of Wednesday.
The organisations also urged the Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO), Sadar Hills not to get embroiled in any land dispute.
KSO, Sadar Hills had earlier announced a Sadar Hills wide 24-hour strike beginning from May 6 midnight to protest against the alleged assault of one Paokhongam Kipgen by some men from Moidangpok village recently and the alleged allotment of land in L Tangnaumm village area, under Gamphazol subdivision of Sadar Hills, to the State Government for setting up of a cultural university there.
But the KSO deferred the strike till May 7 midnight in view of the scrutiny of nominations for the ensuing Autonomous District Council (ADC) polls.
The Pradhan of Moidangpok Gram Panchayat is alleged to have sold the land for the proposed cultural university.
Meitei Youth Front South East Asia Forum, Moidangpok Keithelmanbi Land Protection Committee and New Keithelmanbi Development Association organized a press meet at Manipur Pres Club here on Tuesday during which the indefinite strike was announced.
Representatives of these organizations said the strike on Imphal-Jiribam road, National Highway-37, has been announced against the proposed 24-hour strike called by the KSO, Sadar Hills.
Meitei Youth Front South East Asia president Ng Mangal said an indefinite 'public curfew' will also be enforced in Moidangpok Keithelmanbi area from May 6 as part of the highway blockade.
The leaders of the social organizations claimed that Sanjabung Moidangpok, measuring about 10 paris, inhabited by the Kuki group is a 'disputed land' .
They made the clarification that the Moidangpok villagers were not involved in the beating of Paokhongam Kipgen, a van driver.
They also reiterated that the allegations that the Pradhan of Moidangpok Gram Panchayat sold the land for the projected cultural varsity are baseless.
The representatives of the organizations said the KSO should withdraw the proposed strike and urged the student body not to get embroiled itself in the land dispute.
According to the Manipur Government Settlement Department's official Land Record of 1990, Sanjabung, also known as Moidangpok Magazine, which falls under Moidangpok Keithelmanbi is a land owned by the Meitei community, they claimed.
