Imphal, February 06 2021:
Demanding the withdrawal of Gazette notification of the CCIM (Central Council of Indian Medicine) which allows Ayush doctors to perform 48 different surgeries after a 2 year training, doctors of Shija Hospital staged a sit in protest today.
Speaking to media persons by the sideline of the demonstration, Medical Superintendent of Shija Hospital, Dr Jugindro, who is also the vice president of IMA Manipur State Branch, said that the decision, if not opposed timely, would be detrimental to public health in the long run.
Today's protest was a part of the Nationwide agitation programme announced by the IMA, he added.
What will happen to the patients if Ayush doctors find complications which are not in the list approved but require immediate medical attention during surgeries, Dr Jugindro asked.
Saying that this decision will also hamper the promotion of medical tourism envisioned by the Government, he urged the Government and the authority concerned to withdraw the notification at the earliest.
