Demanding safe release/rescue of Laishram Kamalbabu whose whereabouts remain unknown after his mysterious disappearance on November 25, a sit-in protest was staged at Singjamei Leishangthem Leikai today.
Placards with inscription in Manipuri which translate as "Rescue Kamalbabu", "How can a man disappear from an Army camp", "Take action against the Army", "Down Down Army", "Eliminate Kuki narcoterrorists", "Stop the violence" etc were held during the protest demonstration which was organised by New Development Organisation Singjamei (NDOS).
Laishram Kamalbabu (56), s/o (L) Laishram Kumardhon of Cachar Goshaipur was staying at his brother's place at Loitang Khunou at the time of his disappearance from inside Leimakhong Army base camp on November 25.Speaking to the media, NDOS trustee member Oinam Romen said that the inability of the Army and the Government to trace the location of the man who disappeared from the Leimakhong Army base camp 10 days back is a very serious issue.
Saying that there is a route which connects Churachandpur and Kangpokpi inside the Army base camp at Leimakhong, he added that the Government must clarify whether they approved the construction of the road.
Romen, meanwhile, accused the Government of India of not putting in sincere efforts to resolve the protracted crisis in Manipur.
The Centre has been watching the burning issue in Manipur like some sort of a play, he said and urged the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister to work out a solution to the crisis as soon as possible.
Meanwhile at Khurai Lamlong Keithel, a public meeting was convened to protest the disappearance of Kamalbabu .
Speaking to the media on the sideline, one RK Leibaktombi said that the top brass of the 57 Mountain Division should be held accountable for letting a civilian disappear from a highly secured Army base.
She also said that the Government of India must drive away the Kuki terrorists so as to bring peace in Manipur.
