Imphal, July 05 2014 :
Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) has stated that it is sadden by UNC's decision to boycott the former Outer MP Mani Charenamei and said that it does not support such decision.
In a statement, General Secretary of ZU (AMN) K Poushinglung said that it does not see any reason to appreciate the UNC's action against Mani Charenamei.
The blame put on Mani for the defeat of NPF candidate Soso Lorho in the Lok Sabha election is not acceptable.
If Mani had divided the Naga votes and it led to the defeat of NPF candidate, then the same blame could also be put on other two Naga candidates in the contest.
Moreover, many Naga candidates contested against the NPF candidate in the last State Assembly election of 1012 and the UNC did not say anything about it.
So, UNC has shown its immaturity by announcing social boycott of Mani Charenamei through media, Poushinglung said.
He further observed that UNC or any other such NGO may exercise their authority to boycott or take any action on its members within the ambit of its organization only, but such actions on the candidates of a democratic country like India shall be unconstitutional and undemocratic.
It is our sincere feeling that UNC would be well-advised to withdraw the declaration of social boycott against Mani Charenamei, Poushinglung added.
