Ban on visitors in Mapithel Dam area suspended

Imphal, October 04 2015: Mapithel Dam Affected Villagers Organisation (MDAVO) has announced on Sunday that the ban imposed on visitors in the Mapithel Dam affected area has been lifted temporarily.

The decision was taken during a Joint sitting of the organization and its advisors and village representatives held on Sunday at Ramrei village.

The meeting also agreed to resume the ban on visitors as and whenever necessary.

It can be recalled that, MDAVO imposed the ban on visitors in Mapithel Dam area since July 25 prohibiting activities like partying, picnicking, recreationing and fishing.

However, it will resume the same whenever they consider it necessary, the organization said.

The affected people of the area are claiming the rights they have over their ancestral land, forest and river which they control since time immemorial.

The villagers will not compromise at any cost until and unless the State Government takes up necessary steps to settle the protracted Mapithel Dam issue, MDAVO vowed.
