Imphal, February 04 2025:
The foundation stone for the construction of Salai Epunpham Chalou, where the entire structure of a 'Meetei Yumjao' will be visible and the statues of the seven Maichous installed, was laid by Forest minister Th Biswajit, alongside Lamlai MLA Kh Ibomcha, at Kanglou Lampak, Chalou on Monday.
Speaking as the chief guest of the ceremony, minister Biswajit claimed that people of Manipur are suffering due to some individuals who are unaware of Manipur's history and those who do not know their roots.
He further stated that those trying to destroy Manipur must understand and recall the significant contributions made by the Kings of Manipur when their kingdom was at stake.
He reminded that, soon after the Seven Years' Devastation, the Burmese were driven out from the soil of Manipur.
Every attempt to destroy Manipur would be met with a befitting response, as history has clearly shown, he added.
Delivering the presidential speech, MLA Ibomcha expressed regret over breakdown of customs and traditions, which has led to the erosion of discipline.
"We had our own script, language, customs, traditions, and religion.
In the past, when we adhered to these practices, there was issues on discipline.
However,' with the present generation disregarding our customs and traditions, society has witnessed a decline in respect and discipline, both towards one another and our elders" .
He also maintained that such trends can be avoided through the proposed Salai Epunpham Chalou.
The function was also attended by Telou Chana Seijang ZP member Amom Jamini, Sawombung ZP member Yumnam Ibohal (Ibungo), Takhel GP pradhan Moirangthem Ningth-em, Nongren Chingnungkok GP pradhan Mayanglambam Bilashini, Pungdongbam GP pradhan Irungbam Prem, Sawombung GP pradhan Ningthoujam Dhaneshwar, Telou Chana Seijang GP pradhan, Waikhom Herojit and Chalou Village Development Committee president Sagolsem Ranjit as guests of honour.
