Arrest of VVs, NIA case against AT leaders protested

Imphal, December 03 2024: Demanding withdrawal of the case registered by NIA against Arambai Tenggol leaders, sit-in demonstrations were staged in different parts of the state on Tuesday.

During the sit-ins, the participants used placards inscribed "We condemn the arrest of village volunteers", "Withdraw the case registered against AT leaders by NIA immediately", "We condemn the attitude of the government of India" , and "Repeal AFSPA from Manipur" .

Meira paibi activists of Hiyanglam, Wabagai and Keirak took out a protest march in and around Wabagai Lamkhai market, formed human chain and chanted slogans against imposition of AFSPAin the valley, cases filed against village volunteers and AT leaders.

Agitations were also carried out by meira paibi of Top Siphai, Yumnam Huidrom, Top-Upokpi, Thiyam Leishangkhong, Wangoi, ThOngkhong Laxmi Bazar, Sekmaijin, Tokpaching Mondrum, Waikhong Ningthou Manai, Thongjao, Elangkhanpokpi, Thounoujam, Yangdong, Lamjao Mayai Leikai, Lamjao Makha Leikai, Lamjao Kangjeibung, Lamjao Awang Leikai and Wabagai Lamkhai, Wangoo Laipham Chuthek, Nongyai Khong Mapal Pangaltabi, Tangjeng Chairen Marjing and Khongyam areas.

Opposing the NIA case against Arambai Tenggol leaders, Uripok Apunba Lup and Uripok Apunba Nupi Lup staged protest by blocking half of the road at Uripok Canteen crossing bn Monday evening.

The protestors also chanted slogans demanding safeguard of village volunteers, withdraw cases registered against Arambai Tenggol leaders, repeal AFSPA from Manipur.

According to Uripok Apunba Lup publicity secretary Chingthang Nambam, arrest of village volunteers by security forces amidst the unrest and registration of case by NIA against Arambai Tenggol leaders lack justification as the village volunteers are not criminals but took up arms as per the situation and for protecting their villages and land.

Expressing that the village volunteers should be given general amnesty, he also asserted that the village volunteers will naturally return to normal lives once the conflict ends.

Large number of Meira Paibi members from different localities including Keishampat Thiyam Leikai also protested the move to nab Arambai Tenggol leaders by forming human chain with torches in their hands in Keishampat and Sagolband areas.

Similar protests were also organised in Ningthemcha Karong and Mongshangei.

Earlier on Monday night, Meira Paibi members of Papal areas organised torch rally in and around Papal Keithel, Thoubal district opposing NIA case against AT leaders and crackdown on village volunteers.

The protest was organised under the aegis of Papal Apunba Meira Paibi Lup.
