Imphal, August 03 2024:
Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS), Manipur has questioned the reason behind inaction of the government over the repeated arson activities of the Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists on Meetei houses in Jiribam district.
FOCS also said that the Kuki militants are continuing their terror acts due to leniency shown by Assam Rifles towards them.
In a statement, FOCS took serious note of initiative made by Jiribam district administration for sealing a agreement with Jiri based Hmar and Paite apex bodies but the Chin-Kuki-Zo terrorists blatantly violated the agreement and continue to burning houses of the Meetei.
Calling it unfortunate, FOCS said that Chin-Kuki-Zo terrorists are carrying on with terror acts without any fear due to leniency shown towards them by Assam Rifles.
FOCS asked why the Central government is not taking up any actions against such repeated instances of burning houses and carrying out armed attacks.
It also emphasised the importance of peace negotiation in resolving any sorts of armed conflict.
FOCS further said that it would not be wrong to say that the Chin-Kuki-Zo people are not peace-loving community considering their series of activities.
On the other hand, Meeteis, a peace-loving community, put their faith on the peace negotiation initiated by the district administration.
Nevertheless, Hmar and Paite people in Jiribam should not take this stance of Meeteis as their weakness.
Assuring that FOCS will support the district ad ministration in resolving the crisis and restoring peace, FOCS said that resettlement of the displaced people on both sides of the clash should be taken at the same time.
