AHPI Medical Media Fellowship begins

A two-month Medical Media Fellowship organised by Association of Healthcare Providers India (AHPI)-Manipur Chapter commenced on Monday with an inaugural ceremony held at the auditorium of Shija Hospitals and Research Institute, Meetei Langol, here.
For the fellowship programme, two journalists from print media - namely, The People's Chronicle sub-editor Ngangom Suraj and The Sangai Express sub-editor Kharibam Yaiphaba Meitei, and one from electronic media - Impact TV reporter Ojitkumar Elangbam (Mushuk) along with camera person Kabichandra Leimapokpam have been selected.
Speaking to the media, AHPI president Dr Kh Palin explained that the fellowship programme is aimed at promoting balanced reporting on the challenges, opportunities and successes of healthcare services in Manipur.
He also highlighted that with its headquarters located in New Delhi, the Association represents majority of the healthcare providers across India.
The president also clarified that the Association is not a profit-oriented organisation, but advocates delivery of appropriate healthcare services to community at large by government, regulatory bodies and other stake holders.
Informing that AHPI, Manipur Chapter was formalised in early 2020 when the Coronavirus pandemic broke out, Dr Palin said the Association has been actively involved in the mass awareness campaign, treatment and Covid vaccination, palliative care, patient safety culture, etc.
While highlighting that the Fellowship will serve as a platform for the media fellows to learn more on healthcare related issues such as history of medical science in Manipur, healthcare economics, medical technology, operation theatre technology, biomedical waste management, medical tourism, and cancer care, among others, Dr Palin expressed Confidence that result of the programme would be helpful in sorting and sending recommendations to the government to improve the healthcare sector in the state.
