Public urged to observe May 3 as 'Mikap Thokpa Numit'
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, May 02 2024: Khumujamba Meitei Leikai Pattadar Association (MLPA) has appealed to the public including the civil society organisations (CSOs) and the internally displaced people (IDPs) to observe May 3 as 'Meetei/Meitei Mikap Thokpa Numit' and light candles in every home in honour of those who sacrificed for safeguarding the territorial integrity of Manipur.

Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Thursday, MLPA member Naorem Rojita conveyed profound gratitude to those who are contributing their mite in safeguarding the territorial integrity of Manipur ever since the crisis erupted on May 3 last year.

She opined that naivety of the Meetei community on the devilish intentions of illegal immigrants was the root cause for the armed Kuki narco terrorists launching attacks, as planned for many years.

Rojita further highlighted that the Kuki narco-terrorists have been attempting to demonise chief minister N Biren for launching War on Drugs' campaign and his fierce opposition to poppy cultivation, which has led to the destruction of reserved forest areas in the state and the unchecked increase in the number of Kuki villages.

However, the indigenous people of Manipur are determined not to let the efforts of illegal immigrants Kuki narco terrorists to oust chief minister N Biren materialise.

Asserting that Khumujamba Meitei Leikai Pattadar (Landowner) Association and the internally displaced people will stand united and join the movement alongside the public till eradication of the armed Kuki narco-terrorists from Manipur, she stated that historically, significant conflicts have been resolved only after defeating the adversary elements and implementing essential measures.

Consequently, the Kukis must be compelled to surrender, accept their misdemeanour and ensure that no demand for separate administration from Manipur is made.

Meanwhile, Uripok Apunba Lup and Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup will observe May 3 as 'Meitei Sing Meekup Thokpa Numit' to mark the day when Kuki narco-terrorists attacked the Meetei community on May 3 last year by conducting candle light vigil as a mark of respect to the martyrs who sacrificed for safeguarding the territorial integrity of Manipur.

Meanwhile, Meitei Resurgence Forum (MReF) informed that it will observe May 3 as 'Rising Day for Indigenous People' in different areas and pay tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed for Manipur.

The forum will also conduct candle light vigil at Kangla gate at 6 pm while urging the public to light candle in every house.

With an objective to make aware the world about acts of terrorism by Kuki narco-terrorists since May 3 last year and to jointly resolve against such acts, Thawai Mirel stated that it will observe May 3 as 'Anti-Terrorism day' at Thanga Chingkha community hall.

In a release, Thawai Mirel convenor Th Dara Singh said that the observance will be conducted in presence of the displaced people of Churachandpur Khuga Tampak Meitei Leikai presently taking shelter at the community hall.
